Besides LMI, who are the other vendors out there for the Wagner Safe-T Planer? I thought I remembered a discussion here about the quality of the planer from different vendors, however I can't seem to find it. Are there different versions or brands? Where do you all recommend to purchase this? Thanks! John |

A Wagner Safe-T-Planer is a Wagner Safe-T-Planer, no matter where you get it. Stewmac has it, too. And I'm quite sure the one Woodcraft (and other woodworking suppliers) sells is the same one - I don't think anyone makes one of these except Wagner. |

There is a different company that used to make something similar...the name escapes me...but it was not a great product. As was stated above, a Wagner Safe-T-Planer is a Wagner Safe-T-Planer, no matter where you get it. Stew-Mac, Woodcraft, LMI, etc.... I got mine from LMI. I use it quite a bit, by the way. Its a great tool. -j. |

John, search for safety planer and Al Carruth. The issue was not where you bought it, but when you bought it. Al said the newer ones need substantially more setup to work properly than the older ones. |

Thanks Don, that's what I was thinking of. If I remember correctly he mentioned something about having to grind the blades before using the tool. I'll have to see if I can rig something up on my Tormek to get the blades ready. Cheers! John |

Grizzly has it and it comes with a white grinding wheel and instructions for sharpening. It does come sharp out of the box. Kurt Housh |

I just got a replacement one from Stew Mac, as my son decided my old one was lonely while I was away in Indonesia and that he ought to give it a home. My new one was great straight out of the box. It is a great tool and is my main way of thinning all my wood, just the last 0.5mm gets finished off with the rotary drill press sanding disc and then one pass through the 16-32. Make a table and fence, with hold downs, and keep the baldes sharp and you'll be amazed with it's versitility. If I had to get rid of one tool it would be the 16-32! Colin |

Dave Andy, hey, this is why I come to the OLF, just when you least expect it, someone comes up with a revolutionary idea like the little J-hook bearing roller hold-down thingy. That is super. I'm putting this on two jigs now, my Router Planer and my new Wagner Drill Press Planer. Saved the pic into my A Shop Ideas folder and it's mine all mine. AAAAhhhhhaaahaaa! Thanks for sharing, great jigging by the way. (sorry for the Jeckel moment) |

Thanks guys , the bearing hold down thingy is not my idea though, but came from from a Stew-mac sheet I think. It is a neat idea and works very well. ![]() |
